To be honest, when I first got this disc, I wasn't expecting too much for
the SysOp. The Previous installment of the series, Southern Beauties 1,
had nice images, but a very sparse BBS readiness, and a terrible albatross
around it's neck: The publisher had decided that in order for us poor SysOps
to run the disc online, that we had to pay them a fee to do so! This was in
addition to whatever you paid for it, and it was based (as I recall)
on the number of nodes that you ran. Personally, I wouldn't even recommend
the title to SysOps, simply because of this. I don't want to sell them a
title that they have to pay more to use, and I don't wish to advocate them
to disrespect the copyright on the disc. Wisely, this disc DOESN'T have any
silly BBS-usage fee. Thank you!
The file listings are in a rather typical "FILES.BBS" format, that gives you
the filename, a "[0]" and the descriptions. Each of the three elements are
separated by a space. This listing, while not what I like, can at least be
easily converted into something useful. The listing content is acutally
pretty good. It's not multiline, but at least it's descriptive. Some effort
went into the production, just not enough to make me entirely happy... (smile!)
The images on the disc are definetly hardcore. Overall, the images are of a
pretty good quality, with only small copyright notices on them. Something that
both I and a couple of other people playing with the disc noticed, is that in
a good percentage of the photos, the featured women have tattoos. And, of
those women having tattoos, the two most prevalent places were on the left
breast and on the ankle. OK, what's the deal... did they have a special at
the tattoo parlor that day? Sheesh! I'm almost surprised that they didn't
sub-title this disc "Tattooed Ladies" or something similar. It would certainly
fit. Each image was on the disc twice... once in .GIF format, and once in
.JPG format.
The sub-directory layout is a bit strange here... we have all the .GIF
directories in one sub-directory deep, and all the .JPG directories in two
sub-directories deep, branching off of the .GIF directories. While
relatively easy to follow, I would have preferred them all to be only one
sub-directory deep. The most annoying thing is that that .JPG directories
were NOT named the same on all of them.. some were JPG, and some were JPEG.
This plays merry hell when you are attempting to write a config for this
disc. Very Very Annoying.
Regarding the file listings, you have a couple of choices: You can either
beat them into shape yourself, or call our BBS and download the file
2SBEAUT2.ZIP. That's our EZRom/SFRom config file in PCBoard file listing
format. Of course, being that these are adult file listings, they will NOT
be available to the first time caller. You will need an Arsenal Access level
of "30 - Customer" to get to those listings. If you purchase an adult CD-ROM
from us, then you get a code that will give you access to that level.
Sorry, people, but while we can give the shareware CD-ROM listings away to
the first time callers, giving away the adult listings could get us into
a little hot water.
Overall impression? Well, despite it's shortcomings in file listing variety
and in the sometimes sloppy execution, the disc is acutually pretty good.
It's legal for BBS usage, it has no fees to use it beyond your purchase
price, and the images, while a bit "painted" (i.e. tattooed) are nice.
Overall, I think that this one, with appropriate work, will make a good
BBS-Ready CD-ROM.
